Non-Communicable Diseases

Persone di tutte le età, regioni e paesi sono colpiti dalle Non-Communicable Disease (NCD). Si tratta, secondo l’OMS (Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità), di malattie non trasmissibili e non causate da agenti infettivi. Ne sono esempi il cancro, l’osteoporosi, le cataratte, le malattie del cuore e il diabete. Sebbene queste malattie siano spesso associate agli anziani, le prove scientifiche dimostrano che 15 milioni dei decessi attribuiti a NCD si verificano tra i 30 ei 69 anni. E sebbene non esistano cure, esistono dei fattori di rischio individuabili alla base dell’insorgenza di queste malattie: per esempio il colesterolo alto, il fumo, l’alcool, l’essere in sovrappeso, l’avere una dieta insalubre, il restare inattivi fisicamente.
